West Limestone falls to region champ Brooks

West Limestone found out why Brooks is the Class 4A, Region 8 champions, as the Lions raced out to a 27-0 halftime lead and defeated the Wildcats 33-7 Friday to clinch the region championship.
Brooks wasted no time getting started, scoring just 38 seconds into the game on a 35-yard touchdown run by quarterback Luke Spurgeon.

Spurgeon was the catalyst of the Brooks offense. He passed for 129 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 112 more with two rushing scores.
Spurgeon threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Carson Daniel midway through the first quarter to put Brooks up 14-0 and then had another 24-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Running back Noah Turbyfill also had a 1-yard touchdown plunge in the second quarter as the Lions built their 27-point halftime lead.
Brooks would score its final touchdown of the game in the third quarter, as Spurgeon tossed a 1-yard touchdown pass to Nate Dickerson.
West Limestone got on the board in the final seconds of the game, with quarterback Gage McKelvey throwing a touchdown pass.
West Limestone fell to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in Class 4A, Region 8. The Wildcats will take on Deshler on the road next Friday.
