Teachers, state workers see smaller paychecks

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The state of Alabama is now contributing about 2 percent less to retirement for teachers and other employees, who are trying to make up the difference.

WAKA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/vGI1Jg) that teachers are noticing about $100 to $200 less on their check this week and they will be paid about $1,000 less per year.
Support staff like lunchroom workers and custodians will see about a $500 pay cut per year.
Some educators say the smaller checks are discouraging.
Allison Lynn, who teaches first grade at Garrett Elementary School, says teachers don’t want their pay and expenses cut but when times are tough they have to band together.
