RSA buildings to go purple for lupus awareness

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — The Retirement Systems of Alabama will light some of their buildings in purple on Friday to help raise awareness for the autoimmune disease lupus.

The Press-Register reports (http://bit.ly/LgRYhC ) the Battle House Tower and Hotel and The Bank Trust Building in Mobile will be lit to support Put on Purple Day for Lupus Awareness. The Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Spa and the RSA Dexter Avenue Building in Montgomery will also be lit purple.

The Lupus Foundation of America established the campaign to promote awareness of the disease that affects an estimated 1.5 million Americans.

Miss Alabama National U.S. 2012 Krystal Jackson encourages Alabamians to wear purple in support of the campaign.

Lupus is a disease that makes the body’s immune system hyperactive, causing it to attack healthy tissue.
