- A member of Limestone County's District 4 crew operates a crane Friday morning outside the Limestone County Schools Central Office at the corner of Jefferson and Green streets in Athens. District 4 Commissioner Ben Harrison said the weight of the heating and air-conditioning system component necessitated the use of the former military crane, which he purchased a year and a half ago as part of an Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs program. He said the half-million crane cost about $19,000 through the program. Harrison spent an additional $2,000 to rehabilitate it and also sent one of his employees through training to learn to operate it. Harrison said he primarily uses the crane to install large road pipes.
