Hayden Cooley, front, and Diana Ascencio, back, first-graders at Sugar Creek Elementary School in Limestone County, test their “stop, drop and roll” skills during Thursday’s Let’s Pretend Hospital at Calhoun Community College, Decatur campus. Some 1,200 students from across the Tennessee Valley attended the 19th annual event April 10-12. Calhoun’s Nursing and Allied Health departments, in partnership with Athens-Limestone Hospital and Decatur-Morgan Hospital, hosted the event, which provides first-graders with age-appropriate information about what takes place when someone is admitted to the hospital. “Stop, drop and roll” is a life-saving technique used to extinguish fire on one’s person.
