BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Police say a 25-year-old Birmingham woman wanted in the execution-style slaying of a Vestavia Hills man has been shot in a secluded northern Birmingham area.
A suspect in Monday’s shooting of Kandi Hawkins was taken into custody Tuesday at a Birmingham hotel.
Hawkins was charged with capital murder last week in the May 3 shooting of Lonnie Vaughn. She was the second person charged in Vaughn’s slaying, along with 25-year-old Martez Seay.
Birmingham police spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williams Jr. said Hawkins was found wounded from several gunshot wounds on Monday. Police said she is expected to recover.
Birmingham police and U.S. Marshals arrested a suspect in the Hawkins shooting Tuesday, but have not released the suspect’s name.
