THURSDAY

Athens High MacBook pickup

Athens High School students with the last name “N-Z” should pick up their MacBook computers from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3. New students enrolled after May 23 should pick up computers between 10-11 a.m. or 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8. The student and a parent must be present. Cost is $50 per student — $40 per student if more than one student in a household is attending AHS or Athens Middle School. Fee is $25 for students who qualify for free or reduced-priced lunches. Students will be able to access their schedules Friday, Aug. 4.

Meet the Teacher Night

Julian Newman Elementary School in Athens will host a Meet the Teacher Night for kindergartners from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3. A Meet the Teacher Night for first-graders and second-graders is 5-6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7. Third-graders and fourth-graders may meet their teachers the same night from 6-7 p.m. Groups will meet in the auditorium and then dismiss to classrooms to meet the teachers and receive information. Students are encouraged to bring school supplies.

FRIDAY

Stuff-a-Bus

Limestone County Churches Involved is sponsoring a Stuff-a-Bus for school supplies from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 4-5. The big yellow school bus will be in the Athens Walmart parking lot to receive donations. A list of needed supplies can be found inside the store.

Final concert

Athens-Limestone County Tourism will present the final concert in the Summer Concert Series with Athens State Community Band at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, on the courthouse steps facing Marion Street in Athens. Those attending are asked to bring their own lawn chair. Rain location is Vietnam Veterans Building, 17915 W. Elm St., Athens.

Ardmore Rodeo

The 25th annual Ardmore Rodeo is 8 p.m. Aug. 4-5 at John Barnes Park in Ardmore, Tennessee. All proceed benefit the Ardmore Police Department Reserves and the Ardmore Volunteer Fire Department. Advance tickets available at Adam’s Western Wear in Ardmore, Alabama, and Peoples State Bank of Commerce in Ardmore, Tennessee.

Coffee call

Alabama Veterans Museum & Archives Coffee Call will be held from 8-9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at 100 W. Pryor St. in Athens.

Black and Gold pageant

The Miss Black and Gold pageant will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Cedar Hill Elementary School gymnasium. The event will benefit Montana Worley, a teenager who is fighting cancer. Voter registration

Indivisible Athens Alabama will host a voter registration drive from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 5, at Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park in Athens. There will be two drawings for $25 cash for registered voters and those who register at the event. More information: Ken Hines, 509-229-2277.

Used book sale

School supply distribution

The “Revival” building of First Presbyterian Church in Athens will be open from 1-5 p.m. Aug. 7-8, to distribute school supplies as available to needy families not helped by other groups. Job fair

The Family Resource Center will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 406 S. Jefferson St. in Athens (next to Dub’s Burgers).

Hunting Q&A

The Athens-Limestone Visitors Center at 100 N. Beaty St. will provide hunting information and host a Q&A session with Alabama State Game Warden Sgt. Wendell Fulks. Master Gardeners

Limestone County Master Gardener classes begin Thursday, Aug. 10. Classes meet for 14 weeks from 5-9 p.m. each Thursday evening. Space is limited. STEPS reading program

The Limestone County NAACP will sponsor a free motivational reading program starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Round Island Creek Mission Center at 13829 Lucas Ferry Road, Athens. STEPS (Students Taking Excellence Personally = Success) motivates students aged 3-13 who may not enjoy reading as well as gives students who already enjoy reading an opportunity to showcase their enjoyment. Transportation and lunch provided at no cost.

Fundraising banquet

The Women’s Resource Center will host speaker Pam Tebow at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at its annual fundraising banquet at the Limestone County Event Center. Kiddie Carnival

The Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival at 309 E. Forrest St., Athens, will be open 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 5. Each ride requires a 50-cent ticket. Stability class

East Limestone Senior Center will host their SilverSneakers stability class from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. every Thursday at 25820 Nick Davis Road. SilverSneakers is a group exercise class designed to keep participants safe on their feet. The class will include standing and walking exercises designed to decrease the risk of falling. • Limestone Farmers Co-op. Limestone Farmers Co-op will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Tennessee Valley Substation in Belle Mina for the annual membership meeting. The past year’s business will be presented and two board members will be elected. A meal will be served.

• Dixie Stitchers. The Athens Dixie Stitchers will hold a guild meeting Thursday, Aug. 3, at Friendship United Methodist Church on Lucas Ferry Road. Social time begins at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. The program is making finger pincushions.
