A man accused of shooting another man in the foot during an argument Tuesday night in Limestone County has been charged with first-degree assault.
Limestone County sheriff’s investigators arrested Hunter Andrew Helmick, 18, of 28362 Jennings Chapel Road, after the incident occurred outside a home on Jennings Chapel, said Deputy Stephen Young, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Department.

Helmick was released from the Limestone County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
“Upon arriving on the scene, Investigator Steve Croley observed Helmick running with a rifle in the yard behind the residence,” Young said in a press release issued Wednesday afternoon. “Helmick dropped the weapon when Croley confronted him and ran into the residence. The victim was found on his back in a neighboring yard, attempting to move away from responders.”
Young said the victim had allegedly been involved in a “verbal altercation” with several people outside the mobile home where Helmick was staying. Helmick retrieved a .22-caliber rifle from the mobile home and fired several times at the victim hitting him once in the foot, Young said.
The victim was treated at Huntsville Hospital for minor injuries.
