Willie Charles Long

Willie Charles “Charlie” Long, 77, husband of Lois Mae Long, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Born December 24, 1938, in Limestone County, Charlie was a son of the late Willie Clyde and Magnolia Green Long. A U.S. Marine veteran, Charlie was a retired mason with the River City Development in Louisville for 35 years and a member of the Orangeburg Christian Church.
Charlie loved his family very much and was a wonderful husband to his loving wife, Lois. He and Lois built the house where they have called home for many years. They enjoyed traveling all over the United States camping, fishing, taking train rides and seeing new places. They also loved going on cruises.
A member of the local VFW, Charlie was a very patriotic man and loved watching patriotic movies and westerns.
Besides his devoted wife, survivors include their children, William (Dorothy) Long of Fleming County, Bradley Long of Jacksonville, Florida, Myra Long (Greg) McNeese of Pulaski, Tennessee, Donna Marie Moore of Carlton, Michigan, John (Mary) Bassett of Chelsea, Michigan, Susan (Mike) Rakotz of Gastonia, N.C., Jody Williams of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, and Shawn (Lori) Williams of Smithfield, N.C.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and siblings, Helen Joy King, Jerry (Annette) Long, Nancy Lovell, and Grady Long, all of Athens.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Billy Allen Bassett; and brother, Marion Francis “Gus” Long.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Orangeburg Christian Church in Mason County, Kentucky. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 18, at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral
Home. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery with graveside military rites performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post No. 5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post No. 1834.
Pallbearers will be William Long, Bradley Long, Greg McNeese, Shawn Williams, Jody Williams, Mike Rakotz, and John Bassett.
