Holiday Home Tour tickets

The Athens Ladies Civitan Club Bells of Christmas Holiday Home Tour is 1-5 p.m. Tickets are $20 today for this self-guided tour of Athens and Limestone County’s “most exclusive homes.” Proceeds benefit Limestone County residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Handbell artist and quartet

Handbell artist Danny Lyons with the Bellissimo Handbell Quartet will perform in a free concert at 3 p.m. today in McCandless Hall at Athens State University. Danny Lyons rings an entire 3 octave set of handbells, 37 in all. The event is sponsored by The Livingston Concert & Lecture Series and Center for Lifelong Learning. Seating is limited. Bridgeforth home open house

The Royal Funeral Home Mason Chapel will host a holiday open house at the historic Bridgeforth home today. Festivities begin at 3 p.m. with live music, hot chocolate and light refreshments, followed by the dedication of the restored home at 4 p.m. Tours of the Bridgeforth home will continue after the ceremony and be followed by a tree-lighting at 5 p.m. The public is invited.

Cookbook Club

Love to cook? Join Cookbook Club members noon until 1 p.m. Monday at the Center for Lifelong Learning. Or just stop by and taste the offerings. Eventually this group will be the testers for an Athens cookbook. More information: 256-233-8260.

TUESDAY

Operation Santa Claus

Athens Ladies Civitan’s Operation Santa Claus is at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Friendship Methodist Church on Lucas Ferry Road. Members should arrive at 10:30. The event, for mental health clients includes lunch, entertainment, a holiday skit and gifts.

Ardmore Christmas Parade

The Ardmore Christmas Parade steps off from Ardmore High School at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and will include floats, marching bands, Santa Claus and more. This year’s theme is “Christmas Melodies.”

THURSDAY

Blood drive

A Red Cross blood drive will be held 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the administration building site assembly room at the TVA Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. An advance appointment can be scheduled at www.redcrossblood.org or through Teresa Becker at 256-990-0830.

Lincoln-Bridgeforth tree lighting

Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park will host its annual christmas tree lighting at 5 p.m. Thursday. The free event includes drawings for free bikes and toys and plenty of hot chocolate and refreshments. More information: Robbin Hines 256-614-5622.

American Legion Christmas dinner

The American Legion Post 49 annual Christmas party/dinner is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Post home on Cloverleaf Drive. Free to all paid-up 2015 members and their spouse or guest. Dues payments will be accepted at the door.

Coat/soup giveaway

A free coat giveaway and free cup of soup await visitors from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at North Athens church of Christ, 19159 Alabama 127. The church is next to the WKAC radio station. More information: 256-874-1941.

Sippin’ Cider on The Square

Downtown Athens, from 5-8 p.m., is the place to be Saturday as participating merchants offer sample tastings of their favorite cider recipe. Vote by ballot for your favorite, and the cider receiving the most votes wins bragging rights for the year. The ballots also serve as an entry to one of many door prizes to be given away.

MEETINGS

• Friendship Quilt Guild. Athens Friendship Guild will meet Monday, Dec. 8, at the First Presbyterian Church fellowship hall on the corner of Jefferson and Washington streets. Fellowship at 9:30 a.m., meeting at 10. The program is the annual Christmas party with show and tell.

• Ladies Civitan. The Athens Ladies Civitan meeting is 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Friendship Methodist Church on Lucas Ferry Road. The focus will be Operation Santa Claus Setup.

• DAV. James L. Daniels, chapter 51, Disabled American Veterans will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 25396 Airport Road. Early arrivals will have pizza and soft drinks. The upcoming flagpole dedication at the Daniels gravesite and other community support issues will be discussed.

• UDC. Virginia Clay Clopton United Daughters of the Confederacy will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Canebrake Club in Athens. Dutch-treat luncheon follows at 11:30. • Democrats. There will be a Christmas dinner for the Limestone County Democrats at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena. Bring dessert or a donation to offset food costs. • ALERA. Athens-Limestone Education Retirees Association will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the Athens Recreation Center on Alabama 251 near Athens High School. Members are asked to bring an item to auction for the scholarship fund.
