Dr. William P. “Bud” Albritton Jr., 73, of Athens died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at home after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 14, at First Baptist Church in Athens.

Visitation is noon until time of the service at the church.

William Albritton Jr. was born Aug. 12, 1940, in Frisco City. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens and a frequent visitor to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Curry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Currie Albritton; and his brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas “Spooky” Powe.

Survivors include his wife, Letty W. Albritton; sons, Scott Albritton and wife Karen, and Nat Albritton; grandchildren, Brandon Albritton, Courtney Albritton, Natalie Albritton, Christopher Albritton and William Albritton; sisters, Linda Powe and her children, and Gay Caspers, her husband Johnny Caspers and their children.

He obtained degrees in electrical engineering from Auburn University and the University of Tennessee. He received many academic honors.

In his long career, he taught electrical engineering, was a civil servant for the Air Force, participated on several NATO technical panels, and founded Amtec Corp., serving as its president for more than 25 years.

In his private time, he enjoyed his family, studying the Bible and politics.
