On Monday, Feb. 10, an infant was transported to a local hospital with symptoms consistent with abusive head trauma, according to a release from the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
The case was reported to the LCSO by the Alabama Department of Human Resources on Wednesday, Feb.12. Following a thorough investigation, detectives obtained a warrant for a 27-year-old Athens man after finding probable cause related to the injuries sustained by the infant.
On Friday, Feb. 14, the man was located, taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Child Abuse. As of this release, a judge has not yet set a bond.
“Our hearts go out to this precious child and the family during this incredibly difficult time,” Limestone County Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin stated in the release. “We ask the community to pray for the child’s recovery and the family’s strength.”
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office extends sincere gratitude to the medical professionals involved for their diligent efforts and continued commitment to the well-being of the Athens and Limestone County communities.
