An Elkmont man arrested Monday on charges of possession of a forged instrument faces more charges after a search yielded a large amount of counterfeit money.
A statement posted to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Twitter page said Billy Howell, 47, of 16630 Fort Hampton Road, was arrested Monday. He was charged with three counts of first-degree possession of a forged instrument.

Investigators executed a search warrant Tuesday at Howell’s residence, which yielded $4,400 in cash and nearly $23,000 in counterfeit bills. A vehicle was also seized, according to the Tweet.
Limestone County Sheriff’s Office deputy and spokesman Stephen Young said Howell will face additional charges, which will likely be announced Wednesday morning.
“This is a big problem in the county,” the Tweet said. “Check your bills! Look for watermark, magnetic strip, compare to other bills.”
