Three people have been charged with capital murder in connection with a Wednesday night shooting that left a 2-year-old girl dead, an official said.

Huntsville Police Spokesman Lt. Michael Johnson said officers responded to shooting calls at a home on Murray Road about 6:30 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found shell casings in the street and the shooting victim in the house.

“The child was hit by one of the bullets as she was sleeping,” Johnson said.

HEMSI and Huntsville Fire & Rescue personnel performed emergency medical treatment at the scene, but the child died later at Huntsville Hospital.

Witnesses told police the incident stemmed from an ongoing argument. A confrontation during the day continued over social media through the evening and involved acquaintances of the child’s mother.

“Through interviews and physical evidence, police determined the listed offenders drove by the house and fired several rounds as a result of this argument,” Johnson said.

Those charged were 26-year-old Martin Arrendondo Evenes, 26-year-old Dominique Marshawn Russell and 26-year-old Brittany Nicole Kingston. All three remained in the Madison County Jail Thursday without bond.

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle thanked the investigators who worked on the case throughout the night.

“An innocent child is dead because of a senseless shooting evolving from an argument among reckless adults,” Battle said.
