More than $6,000 was raised for the Athens-Limestone Public Library at the Storybook Ball, according to a library spokesperson.

About 100 people attended the annual fundraiser on Aug. 26 at the library. The funds raised support youth programs and materials.

Debbie Joyner, development director for the library’s foundation board, said tickets to the event were provided as an incentive to children who participated in the library’s summer reading program.

“Almost half of this year’s attendees were children (or their parents) who earned the reward,” Joyner said.

This was the fifth year for the ball, which was started by foundation board member Tiffany Seibert as a family friendly fundraiser for the library foundation. Anna Clem, another foundation board member, has chaired the event for the past two years.

Other volunteers who helped include members of Pi Beta Sorority, “who seem to have as much fun as the children,” Joyner said, adding the sorority has helped each of the last five years.

“We appreciate the support of everyone involved,” she said.
