COTTONDALE, Ala. (AP) — One person was killed and another was injured after authorities say gunshots were fired at a late-night party.

News outlets report 21-year-old Cory Walton was charged on Saturday with murder in the death of a 19-year-old man and second-degree assault of a 22-year-old man in Cottondale.

Metro Homicide commander Capt. Kip Hart says officers were called to the residence where they found the men who had been shot.

Hart says Walton pulled a gun out during a party before being told to leave. Investigators say others tried to restrain Walton, but he was still able to fire several shots.

Walton was injured and taken to the hospital.
