A limited number of tickets are now on sale for a special concert being planned and presented by local high school students enrolled in the Music Entertainment Tour Logistics program, or METL.
The concert, set for March 3 at the Athens Renaissance School, will feature headliner BarCODE. The group features members of Toby Keith’s Easy Money Band.
Other acts set to appear are The Late Evening Crows and West Limestone native and “American Idol” contestant Lillian Glanton. Tickets for the show are $10 and can be purchased online at www.acsf.acs-k12.org or at the Athens Visitors Center on Beaty Street. Only 200 tickets are being made available.
Doors for the show open at 6 p.m. and music runs from 7-10 p.m.
The concert’s primary sponsor is the Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce, though other sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information about sponsoring the concert, email METLprogram@gmail.com.
About METL
The METL program is available to Athens High School and Limestone County high school students. It is for credit and at no cost to the students. Due to its unique structure, only 15 students were accepted to participate in the inaugural class.
The program uses a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training. Students learn how to organize a tour, how to effectively complete one and how to build a successful career in the music entertainment touring industry.
The program was presented in two segments, the first of which included interactive classroom instruction. METL II “Live” involved hands-on learning and resulted in the students working together as a tour team to budget, design, plan and execute the upcoming concert.
About the instructor
Ashley Swann is the program’s primary instructor. A press release about the concert described Swann as “a long-time industry professional, whose experience includes working as a tour manager, production manager and site coordinator for many of the Who’s Who of the Entertainment Industry, including Toby Keith.”
Swann began his career in the mid-1960s during the music explosion in England, the release said.
“His travels have taken him far and wide in many roles, spanning the U.S., Canada, Europe, Guam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Australia and Bahrain,” the release said. “Now he is getting an opportunity to share these skills with students taking part in the METL program offered at Athens Renaissance School, through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training.”
