UPDATED: Woman suffers minor injury at Athens motel

A woman was treated for a minor injury Tuesday night after an accidental shooting in a room at the Bomar Inn in Athens.

Police and medical personnel were called to the motel shortly after 6 p.m. after receiving a call from a 24-year-old female. Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said the woman told investigators she sat down on the bed and leaned in such a way it caused the gun to discharge, striking her in the side.

Johnson said the woman was interviewed by investigators at the scene and then was transported to Athens-Limestone Hospital with a not life threatening injury. He added she was discharged from the hospital shortly after being treated.
