Blood drive

The East Limestone Senior Beta Club is sponsoring an American Red Cross Community Blood Drive from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday in honor of the 5-year anniversary of the 2011 tornado outbreak. The location is the gymnasium facing East Limestone Road. The school address is 15641 E. Limestone Road.

Professionals Day luncheon

The 2016 Administrative Professionals Day Celebration Luncheon is set for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Event Center. RSVP by Friday, April 22. The event is designed for businesses and organizations to honor their support staff. The cost is $20 per guest with table sponsorships available. Historical Society road trip

The Limestone County Historical Society will travel in caravan to the Wichahpi Commemorative Stone Wall in Lauderdale County on Thursday. Departure time is 9:30 a.m. from the Goody’s parking lot on U.S. 72. Members RSVP to Paul Mammana at 256-232-6086.

Veterans Museum fish fry

Advance tickets are on sale for the Alabama Veterans Museum annual fish fry set for 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1917 U.S. 72 West, Athens. Menu includes catfish, chicken tenders, slaw, hush puppies, drinks and dessert. Carryouts available. Advance tickets are $10 at the museum or $12 at the event.

Rescue Squad fundraiser

The Athens-Limestone Rescue Squad spring yard sale fundraiser is being held from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 1401 Freeman St., Athens. More information: Michael Hardy 256-431-7734.

Singing on The Square

Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association’s free Summer Concert Series returns to The Square Friday from 6-8 p.m. American Idol contestant Lillian Glanton and her band Elk River Boys will take the stage at 6 p.m. Wade Oliver and the Good O’ Boys will follow at 7. Firefighters breakfast

Sassafras Tea Celebration

The event is 10 a.m. until noon Saturday in Elkmont. Richard Martin Sr. will tell “The Story of the Battle of Sulphur Creek” at 10:15 and 11:15. Public can ride a Hobbs Farm wagon, take a leisurely walk to the Trestle or view the 1950s-era firetruck. Sassafras tea and sweets will be available in the Depot.

Final historical walking tour

The final guided 90-minute walking tour of Athens historic districts in April is Saturday. The tour begin 10 a.m. at the Athens-Limestone County Visitors Center at Big Spring Memorial Park. Early arrival and comfortable shoes recommended. More information: 256-232-5411.

Health Fair

A Health Fair to include a dietician, fitness coach and nurses conducting blood pressure and cholesterol tests will be held from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday at David’s Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 11273 Stewart Road, Tanner. A blood drive starts at 10 a.m. Healthy snacks will be provided.

Piney Chapel alumni reunion

Nature walk

Join Damien Simbeck, TVA natural resources manager, on a guided walk through handicap accessible Marbut Bend Walking Trail on Saturday. Walkers should meet at 7:30 a.m. at the trail head on Alabama 99 just west of the Elk River bridge in West Limestone. Plant and Bake Sale

The Athens Garden Club Annual Plant & Bake Sale is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday at the downtown Athens-Limestone Farmers Market. The sale continues until all plants are sold. The bake sale includes a variety of homemade culinary offerings. This event is the primary AGC fundraiser supporting the club’s college scholarship program.

Earth Day & Outdoor EXPO

This free KALB event is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Church, 16479 Lucas Ferry Road in Athens. Alabama Wildlife Center, Tennessee Valley Zoo, Jim Swanner and Rosie, make-and-take crafts, hands-on games and activities, Ludivine will meet and greet, $1/minute massages (proceeds to KALB), free hot dogs and treats, and free door prizes. WAAY-TV weather team will be on hand from 10 a.m. until noon to program weather radios and give away a free one. Grease Festival vendor applications

Used book sale

Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10:15 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 603 S. Jefferson St. More information: 256-232-1233.

Booked for Lunch

The Athens-Limestone Public Library Booked for Lunch series continues Tuesday at noon with a program on genealogy. Presenters will be Rhonda Larkin and Bettye Perrine from the Tennessee Valley Genealogical Society. Participants are invited to bring lunch. The library will provide light refreshments. MEETINGS

• Cancer survivors dinner. The cancer survivors support group will meet for a free catered dinner at 6 p.m. Monday, May 2, at First Baptist Family Life Center in Athens. Survivors and caregivers are invited. Night includes dinner, music, speakers and door prizes.
