The News-Courier will publish, free of charge, death notices including the name, age and city of residence of the deceased, date and place of death, and time and place of funeral services and visitation.

Family members now may express themselves in a eulogy, list survivors and give detailed biographical information about the deceased in a paid obituary. The News-Courier will accept these paid items from the family, funeral directors, or other individuals. Paid obituaries may include a photo at no extra charge.

If a published obituary contains an error, The News-Courier will reprint a corrected obituary at no charge, provided the error was ours. The News-Courier does not issue refunds on obituary announcements.

Marilyn Yvonne Bailey

The funeral for Marilyn Yvonne Bailey, 68, of Athens, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Spry Funeral Home with Joe Teal and Bradley Griggs officiating. Burial will be in Oakgrove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bailey died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

She was born July 7, 1937, in Limestone County. She was a member of Oakgrove Methodist Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Harold Wayne Bailey of Chattahoochee, Fla., and Lynwood Bailey of Athens.

Pallbearers will be Jason Bailey, Robert Bailey, Edgar Griggs, Mickey Bailey, B.L. Griggs and John Robert Webster.



Elizabeth Ann Craven

The funeral for Elizabeth Ann Craven, 70, of Athens, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Charlie Alookaran officiating. Burial will be in West Point USMA Cemetery in West Point, N.Y.

Visitation will be 6-9 tonight at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Craven died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

She was a registered nurse and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She was a strong supporter of Best Friends Animal Society and the North Shore Animal League. She was a patron of Houston Memorial Library in Athens.

Mrs. Craven was preceded in death by her parents, Lt. Gen. Robert H. York and Grace Buckland York; a son, Thomas T. Craven Jr.; and two sisters, Dana Dale York and Gail Andrea York.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas T. Craven of Athens; two sons, Jon Patrick Craven of Oakdale, Tenn., and William York Craven of Madison; two daughters, Deborah Ann Zimmerman of Boca Raton, Fla., and Tamlyn Grace Koski of New Market; two sisters, Barbara Donnadieu of Navarre, Fla., and Carol York Winslow of El Cajon, Calif.; a cousin, Donald Schmitt of Los Angeles, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joel Pugh, John Stockton, John Conlon, Roy Shaw, Henry Brown and Steve Carter.

Henry F. Moore

Henry F. Moore, 75, of Athens, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Spry Funeral Home.



Gladys Roemia Parvin

The funeral for Gladys Roemia Parvin, 85, of Athens, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Lauderback officiating. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Parvin died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at home.

She was a member of West Highland Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.D. Parvin; a son, William Harris; a brother, William Cecil McCowan; and three sisters, Lacy Usery, Lorene Hamley and Essie Adams.

She is survived by two sons, Andrew J. Harris of Athens, and Thomas F. Harris of Pulaski, Tenn.; a daughter, Doris Thrift of Huntsville; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers, James L. McCowan of Elkmont and Marvin J. McCowan of Athens; and four sisters, Ruth Adams and Betty Jane Johnson, both of Athens, Reba Emberton of Sheridan, Ark., and Myrtice Emberton of Clinton, Ark.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Thrift, Stuart Harris, Norman Harris, Conrad Morton, Mike Birchfield and Steve Hornbuckle.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.



Walter R. Sims

The funeral for Walter R. “Buck” Sims, 85, of Athens, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Spry Funeral Home with Dwight Ridinger, Joey Curtis and Ted Davis officiating. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Sims died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

He was a member of Seven Mile Post Road Church of Christ and was retired from Limestone Memorial Gardens and Empire Gas Company in Athens.

Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh and Myrtle Pugh Sims; two sisters, Edith Stone and Katharyn Trousdale Conley; and a granddaughter, Abigail Marie Sims.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rebecca Holmes Sims of Athens; a son, Walter Sims and wife Debra, of Athens; a granddaughter, Walker Anne Sims of Athens; a nephew, Crutcher Trousdale of Athens; and two nieces, Gayle Woodward Ball and Martha Easter, both of Athens.

Pallbearers will be Crutcher Trousdale, Jimmy Woodward, Curtis Lomax, Gregory Holmes, Michael Melson and Keith Holmes.
