Man accused of stealing $2,800 mower from Walmart

A Huntsville man was arrested Tuesday because police say he stole a lawnmower from Walmart, an official said.

Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said 27-year-old Michael Lee Alan Thompson of 3112 Hale Drive SW was charged with one count of first-degree theft of property and one count of second-degree theft of property.

Police believe Thompson stole the mower, valued at $2,893, from the store on April 4. Police also believe he was involved in the theft of $1,771 in merchandise in January.

Johnson said Investigator Kelly Fussell made the arrest, and said more arrests are possible.

After being booked at the police station, Thompson was taken to the Limestone County Jail. Bond is set at $7,500.
