Limestone County Sheriff’s officials arrested four people on drug charges around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night at a home in west Athens, an official said.

Lt. Lance Royals confirmed the following four people were arrested on charges of first-degree manufacturing of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia:

• Bobbie Joe Davis, 36, of 209 Sunset Drive, Athens;

• James Dewayne Russell, 38, of 209 Sunset Drive, Athens.

• John William Franklin Jr., 37, of 26505 New Bethel Road, Elkmont;

• Regina Brandy McNeese, 29, of 28629 Pettusville Road, Elkmont;

In the week leading up to the arrests, investigators had received a number of complaints of suspicious activity at 209 Sunset Drive, Royals said. Russell rented the residence, and his girlfriend, “Jody” Davis, had been living there for several weeks, Royals said.

Investigator Johnny Morell and Royals went to the home to look into the complaints. Russell answered the door, and after being asked to discuss some possible illegal activity, gave investigators permission to come in and conduct a search.

When the investigators walked in, they “immediately saw needles, precursors and meth in plain view,” Royals said. “There were two old meth labs in the residence and several grams of recently cooked meth.”

In a back bedroom, investigators found Franklin and McNeese “just sitting there where the dope was cooked,” Royals said. “They had a bag with spoons with residue and several syringes, snorting straws and some finished product.”

Royals said Davis, “was the main person doing it (manufacturing),” and she, too, was found in the room attempting to repair a funnel (used to pour drug precursors into a bottle) that “the dog had chewed up.”

The four suspects were arrested, and Royals and Morell confiscated several grams of meth and the precursors.

Deputies Jason Shawley and Rhett McNatt assisted with the arrests.

The suspects remained in the Limestone County Jail Thursday with bail set at $56,000 each.
