BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Two people will serve prison terms for their roles in the October 2005 shooting deaths of two Gardendale teenagers.

A judge Thursday ordered 22-year-old John Ashley to serve life in prison without parole.

A co-defendant, 23-year-old Carley Taylor, will serve 20 years, but circuit judge Teresa Pulliam suspended all but 5 years of the sentence.

Ashley, the triggerman, and Taylor were convicted of capital murder in separate trials in the deaths of 19-year-old Tyler Carter and 18-year-old Alexander Lee.

The teens were gunned down in the driveway of Ashley’s home in Morris.

The parents of both victims sought a death sentence for Ashley and said Pulliam was too lenient.
