- Clements quarterback Cody Arnold gets flushed out of the pocket in the Colts' loss at Tanner.
CLEMENTS – The way Clements quarterback Cody Arnold started the game at Sheffield Friday night, he was afraid it was going to be a long night. The first two passes he threw were intercepted by the Bulldogs’ defense.
From that point on, Arnold decided he wasn’t going to let his team down and finished out the game nearly perfect. He completed 25-of-30 passes for over 190 yards and three touchdowns in the Colts’ 35-25 win at Sheffield.
Arnold has been selected the Crunch Player of Week for Friday night’s performance.
“Those first two interceptions hurt,” he said. “I’d never seen anything like that and I wasn’t going to let it happen again. I had to make up for my mistakes.”
Clements coach Forrest Williams said if you were to take out the interceptions, Arnold would have played a perfect game Friday night.
“The only other incomplete passes he threw was when he was getting rid of the football on a busted play,” Williams said. “That’s exactly what we need from our quarterback.”
Arnold said one thing that boosted his performance at Sheffield was his pass protection. He said he didn’t feel much pressure in the pocket and attributes that to his offensive front.
“Those guys got the job done,” he said. “They are the ones who need the credit.”
