On the road again: CHOW Bus announces meal times

Published 6:15 am Tuesday, June 4, 2019

The Limestone County Schools Combating Hunger on Wheels (CHOW) bus is back on the road and delivering meals to area children.

The bus will be running through mid-July. However, dates, times and locations will change each week. The bus will stay at each location for about 30 minutes before moving to its next stop.

Child Nutrition Director Teresa Rogers said the school system is changing up locations every week to reach as many children as possible.

If a child can’t make it to a CHOW bus stop, the Elkmont High School cafeteria will be open for breakfast 8–8:30 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays until July 11. A hot lunch will also be served from 11 a.m. until noon on those dates.

The cafeteria will be closed July 4.

Bus routes

Rogers provided bus routes for the next two weeks:

• June 4-6: 10:45–11:05 a.m., Tanner High School front parking lot; 11:30–11:50 a.m., Piney Chapel Elementary School;

CHOW history

Rogers started the CHOW Bus, which was fashioned from an old school bus donated by the district, about four years ago. The refurbished mobile meal vehicle features cafeteria-style seating where children can enjoy a meal and a warming station to keep prepared food hot.

Students at the Limestone County Career Technical Center did most of the interior work and designed a graphic wrap for the exterior, making it recognizable in the community.

The bus broke down last year because of maintenance issues but is back on the road this summer.
