Man arrested in 7-year-old child sex abuse case
An Athens man accused of sexually abusing a child under age 12 in 2010 and 2011 has been arrested on a year-old grand jury warrant, records show.
Limestone County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Frasier arrested William Adam McBay, 32, of 18675 Cox Road.
The warrant was issued following McBay’s grand jury indictment in April 2017, records show. Records also show McBay was released from the Limestone County Jail after posting a $20,000 bond.
In April 2011, Athens police had initially charged McBay with sexual abuse of a child under 12, and he was released from the county jail after posting $50,000, records show. Then-Capt. Floyd Johnson, who is now police chief, told The News Courier at the time the arrest stemmed from a complaint received from the Limestone County Department of Human Resources. He said the alleged abuse had occurred between Nov. 15, 2010, and April 2011.
The grand jury heard the case in 2017, at which time it found adequate evidence to send the case to trial.
