Wildfire jumps line in St. Clair County, Ala.
COLUMBIANA, Ala. (AP) — The Alabama Forestry Commission says a wildfire that’s burned 48 acres since Saturday night has jumped a containment line and is moving toward homes in St. Clair County.
Commission spokeswoman Coleen Vansant says a lightning strike started the blaze. She says the fire was contained Sunday night but jumped containment lines shortly early Tuesday.
Vansant says firefighters from Cook Springs and the forestry commission are putting in more lines in an area she termed “very rough, rugged terrain.”
She says the lines are normally put in place with bulldozers but firefighters are doing the work by hand with devices called fire rakes. No homes have been evacuated, she said.
