Athens couple arrested in connection with I-65 vehicle break-in

An Athens couple now know the true meaning of “ball and chain” after they were arrested Tuesday in connection with a vehicle burglarized on I-65 near the county line, according to The Cullman Times.

The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office charged Robert Lee Holt, 46, and Vivian Mullins Posey, 43, with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. They were booked into the Cullman County Detention Center with bail set at $5,000 each, according to a press release from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the vehicle break-in on I-65 near mile marker 313 on March 10. The victim ran out of gas and had gone to a nearby store with someone who stopped to help. When they returned, they noticed the suspects breaking into the car and were able to get pictures of the couple in a white Dodge 1500 truck before they left the scene.

The sheriff’s office posted the pictures to its Facebook page, and a Madison County resident recognized the suspects’ truck from an advertisement from a “Handyman Service” flyer and contacted sheriff’s investigators.

The tip led investigators to Holt and Posey, who are engaged to be married, and they were arrested Tuesday off I-65 in Falkville.

“This arrest shows the power of social media in helping law enforcement track down suspects,” Sheriff Matt Gentry said.
