Two charged with rape among 277 indicted by grand jury

A Limestone County grand jury has formally charged two Limestone County men with second-degree rape.

Jeremiah Falby McKinley, 23, of 29838 Mooresville Road, was accused of relationship with a 12-year-old girl.

On March 13, the Limestone County sheriff’s office received a call from a woman who said she found text messages referring to the offense on her daughter’s cell phone.

McKinley was arrested for contributing to the delinquency and unruliness of a child in Lincoln County, Tenn. He was later arrested and charged with second-degree rape by Limestone County officials.

José Perez Jr., 20, of 1006 Fifth Avenue, was accused of second-degree rape for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl who had been reported by her parents as a runaway in February. Athens Police officers interviewed the girl and Perez. Limestone County officials later arrested Perez after he stopped a vehicle in which the two were riding.

In Alabama, the legal consent to sex is 16.

The grand jury also formally charged Daniel Donald Dewayne, 35, of 28986 Leggtown Road in Elkmont, for sexual abuse of a child less than 12.

The three men are among 277 people indicted on mostly felony charges in the most recent session of the grand jury. The names of some were withheld by authorities pending arrest.
