Head-on collision claims life of Athens man

A two-vehicle crash that occurred at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, has claimed the life of an Athens man, according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Brandon H. Cooley, 44, was killed when the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup he was driving collided head-on with the 2012 Chrysler 200 driven by Courtney G. Aughtman, 26, of Madison.

Cooley was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. Aughtman was injured and airlifted to Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville for medical treatment.

The crash occurred on Alabama 53 near the 338 mile marker, approximately four miles southeast of Ardmore, in Limestone County. Nothing further is available as troopers with ALEA’s Patrol Division continue to investigate.
