Man to pay fines for thefts at church, funeral home
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Attorney General Troy King says an Auburn man will pay about $94,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to stealing copy machines from places including a church, a funeral home and a trucking company.
King says 45-year-old Stanley Boone pleaded guilty Wednesday to theft charges in the Circuit Courts of Chambers and Randolph counties. He says Boone also pleaded guilty to theft in Montgomery County Circuit Court April 17th.
King says Boone has been ordered to repay the money that was stolen from victims.
He says Boone admitted in pleading guilty that he had been involved in a scheme to steal copy machines from businesses by offering to arrange for an upgrade to a newer machine and to return the old machine to the leasing company and pay off the lease amount.
King says the man removed the old machines but did not return them to the leasing companies and did not pay off the amounts remaining due.
Sentencing is set in Montgomery County for May 17th and for May 19th in Chambers and Randolph counties.
The plea agreements recommend concurrent sentences of 10 years but do not oppose probation if Boone has made full restitution to the victims by the time he is sentenced.
