Joyride leads to crop loss; LCSO seeking suspects
Limestone County Sheriff’s investigators are looking for two suspects in connection to a car theft and property damage that resulted in crop loss.
Brett Kirkland Burks, 24, and Stephanie Lynn Dutcher, 39, both of Chris Way in Athens, were identified as suspects based on evidence found by investigators at the scene of an abandoned stolen car.
The car, a 2013 Mercedes C250, was reported stolen Saturday from the 500 block of Bay Pointe Drive. The occupied residence had been broken into, and the suspects took the keys to the vehicle before leaving from the residence in the vehicle.
The vehicle was later located in a corn field near the intersection of Hatchett Ridge and Lindsay roads in Tanner. Limestone County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Stephen Young said the suspects got stuck in the corn field and sought help from a local citizen who reported the vehicle to deputies.
Young said the suspects ran when they learned deputies were on the way.
Investigators obtained warrants for Burks and Dutcher on charges of first-degree theft, second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and destruction, demolition or obliteration of crops. Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Burks or Dutcher is asked to call Investigator Caleb Durden at 256-232-0111.
