UPDATE: Trail of Tears motorcycle ride hits Athens between 1 and 2 p.m. Saturday

The annual Trail of Tears motorcycle ride will be coming through Huntsville and Limestone County on Saturday.

The ride honors those who died during the Indian Removal Act. 

Organizers said the ride will pass through Athens on U.S. 72 sometime between 1 and 2 p.m. Athens police will restrict access to 72 while riders are present.

The ride will come into Huntsville from Scottsboro on U.S. 72 East. Riders will continue west on Interstate 565 to Exit 3, Greenbrier Road, and stop at Redstone Harley-Davidson. They will leave Redstone Harley around 12:30 p.m. and travel north on Mooresville Road to U.S. 72 West.

If traveling in the area of I-565, expect delays between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. All entrance ramps to travel westbound on I-565 will be closed for the safety of the riders as the ride travels through Huntsville.

Huntsville Police Department will be coordinating the ride and working with Alabama state troopers and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department as the riders travel through Huntsville.
