Voters can quiz mayoral, council candidates

Athens voters will have a chance to question candidates for mayor and City Council during a political forum Thursday at Athens State University’s McCandless Hall.

The event begins at 7 p.m., with candidates arriving a few minutes before to receive final instructions. Each candidate will have five minutes to address three prepared questions. He or she may make additional statements with any time remaining.

Athens State University Professor of Political Science Jess Brown will moderate the forum. The public is invited.

The Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce and ASU will sponsor the event.

The municipal election is Aug. 26.

Listed below are the candidates and the seats they are seeking.



Candidates for mayor:

• Charlie Baucom

• Ralph Richardson

• Dan Williams, incumbent

• Eric Wise

• Chuck Yancura



Candidates for City Council, District 2:

• James L. Putman

• Harold G. Wales, incumbent

• Danny J. Whitfield



Candidates for City Council, District 5:

• Milly Caudle, incumbent

• Charles E. Sample



Candidates for the other City Council seats were elected June 3 without opposition. They are:

• Mignon Bowers, District 1

• Jimmy Gill, District 3

• Ronnie Marks, District 4
