Police: Tuscumbia woman left young kids in car alone
TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (AP) — A north Alabama woman faces child abandonment charges after police say she left two of her children in an unlocked car for more than half an hour.
The TimesDaily reports officers responded around 8:30 p.m. Thursday after a store manager reported that 30-year-old Tessa Renia Jefferies of Tuscumbia was apparently intoxicated and wandered around the store for 30 to 40 minutes with her 6-year-old son.
Police say Jefferies was confused and her speech was slurred. Officers went to her car and found a 2-week-old baby and a 3-year-old alone.
Jefferies faces various charges including child abandonment, reckless endangerment, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication.
Jefferies was being held in the Tuscumbia City Jail on bail of $3,500. It wasn’t immediately clear whether she had a lawyer.
