Police: Ex-boyfriend admits to burglary, arson via voice mail
A woman’s alleged ex-boyfriend called her answering machine and confessed to breaking into her home, destroying property and setting fire to a table, according to Athens Police.
On Nov. 24, officers responded to a residence at 2200 Levert Ave. ,where a resident had arrived home to find two televisions destroyed, belongings scattered and a fire had been started on her dining room table.
The fire burned out and didn’t spread to other parts of the house, police said.
When the victim reportedly listened to her voice mail, her alleged ex-boyfriend — identified as 46-year-old Andre Pride of Athens — had left messages indicating he committed the crimes.
Burglary and arson warrants were sworn out against Pride, who turned himself in Monday at the Athens Police Department. In addition, Pride also had three warrants for domestic violence and one probation violation warrant.
He was transferred to the Limestone County Jail where he remained Tuesday.
