En plien air: Athens Arts League and Isom’s Orchard partner for unique painting class

Saturday, Oct. 14, the Athens Arts League hosted Painting in the Orchard, a plien air painting class at Isom’s Orchard. Children ages 6-13 enjoyed a sunny fall morning of painting and fun in the open air of the orchard.

Plien air is French for “in the open air” and allows the artist to see the true light and colors of the objects or scene they are painting. Saturday’s paintings featured the vibrant blue skies, persimmon trees, and a landscape dotted with pumpkins.

Isom’s Orchard provided the picturesque setting while members of the Athens Arts League and artists from High Cotton Arts, including Karen Middleton, Gail Bergeron, Diane Lehr, Vickie Camp, Sonya Gordon and Lee Shepherd, led the painting class.

Present and former members of the Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission also lent a hand by volunteering to help with registration and assisting during the class.
