Owner claims workers damaged car with spraypaint, buffing
Workers spray painting an Athens business accidentally got some of the paint on a red Ford Explorer Tuesday. Normally, one might think that this was an honest mistake or a bad call in judgement.
But not this time.
Athens Police Det.-Sgt. Trevor Harris said the owner of the 2001 Ford Explorer filed a complaint with police when he found some of the painters buffing his car apparently in an attempt to remove the paint that had gotten on his vehicle as the result of the wind.
“It started out as a civil matter, but when they started buffing the car the owner really got upset,” Harris said. “He filed a complaint and we are investigating.”
The incident occurred at the Country Hearth Inn at the intersection of U.S. 72 and Interstate 65.
Harris said the owner of the Explorer is claiming $1,500 in damage to his vehicle.
