Owens school, teacher win $1,500 for junk food enlightenment effort
Studying the evils of junk food has paid off for a teacher and students at Owens Elementary School.
Fourth-grade teacher Rachel Wright had her students read a health and safety book titled “Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food,” and had them decorate a bulletin board depicting what they learned from the book.
As a result, BlueCross BlueShield recently gave Wright a $1,500 grant to split with the school. She intends to buy books for her classroom library with her half.
Jeff Adams of BlueCross BlueShield presented a check for the grant to Wright on Nov. 22.
