Power should be fully restored by afternoon today
Overnight storms downed numerous trees and power lines in portions of Limestone County. Limestone County Emergency Management Officer Eddie Gilbert said most reports were coming from the northern part of the county. Trees were reported down in the Owens community around Alabama 99 and Lydia Corey Road, as well as Thatch Road. Residents also reported trees down on Turner Lane, Nick Davis Road, Valley Drive and portions of East Limestone.
Gilbert said the EMA has received calls that trees fell on houses but, at this time, he is unsure of the amount of damage.
Gary Scroggins, general manager of Athens Utilities, said as of 8:45 a.m. they were still experiencing scattered power outages throughout the county. “All main lines have been repaired,” he said. “We are now working on tap lines in neighborhoods that may have trees or tree limbs on the line.”
Scroggins said he believes power should be back on in the county by afternoon today.
