Sheriff’s Office seeks leads on cold case
Tuesday marked 14 years since two fishermen discovered the body of Noelle Virginia McAnally in Piney Creek.
Autopsy results showed the 26-year-old Huntsville woman’s remains had been there at least five days. She died from blunt-force trauma and was identified through dental records.
Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said at the time some of McAnally’s clothing was found in the water. One of her tennis shoes was found hanging from a tree near the Piney Creek bridge.
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office is still seeking information about the cold case. Her death has been investigated by both the Sheriff’s Office and Huntsville Police Department since authorities believe she may have been murdered there.
In April, Gov. Kay Ivey renewed a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for McAnally’s death. Law enforcement officers hope the reward, combined with a plea for information, will produce some new leads.
“We’re trying to bring some information to it,” said Deputy Stephen Young, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.
At the time of McAnally’s death, she had a 5-year-old daughter.
“All she’s known since then is pictures (of her mother),” Young said. “The family needs some closure on the case.”
About the case
McAnally had been divorced for about a year and was living with a man in an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Bob Wallace Avenue in Huntsville.
Her death may be connected to three unsolved homicides in Huntsville, authorities said.
The three women frequented an area of Hall Street, a hangout for the homeless and prostitutes. Authorities said McAnally was not a prostitute, but she took rides with strangers and often stayed in rescue missions.
She was last seen Memorial Day weekend. Her ex-husband, who is also the father of her daughter, filed a missing person report with the Huntsville Police Department.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Limestone County Sheriff’s Investigator Rodney McAbee at 256-216-5022 or rmcabee@limestonesheriff.com.
