Our view: Saying nothing says everything

There is no reason to show support of any kind for Hitler or Nazism. There is no place for antisemitism in any society.

The rapper formerly known as Kanye West said, “There’s a lot of things that I love about Hitler.” And that’s just one example of his show of support on Alex Jones’ Infowars, a far-right website that promotes conspiracies.

He seemingly tried to cover his bases by saying he loved everyone, saying at one point he loved both Zionists and Nazis.

It doesn’t matter how much you want to love everyone. You shouldn’t support Hitler or Nazism. And if you can’t bring yourself to say that, please deeply consider why it is you feel you can’t because saying nothing, says everything.

One part that’s missing from most of the media references about the interview West had with Alex Jones on Infowars is how West uses his Christianity as reasoning for loving everyone. This is not a question of faith. You’re not an unfaithful Christian to say you don’t support Hitler or Nazis.

In the Bible Belt of America we cannot ignore the fact that Christianity is being used in the political world today. And, it’s being used by people like Kanye West to spread hatred in the guise of love.

Many people have different beliefs in this country. Freedom of religion is just as important as freedom of speech. So, let’s not make this about West’s right to say what he wants in the First Amendment because that same amendment protects Jews’ right to believe and organize as they please in this country.

What the Constitution doesn’t necessarily dabble in is ethics. Everyone acts according to their own moral code. What’s right to you might not be right to your neighbor. Consider your own ethics.

If you were to really live in love, would you proclaim to admire a man who killed millions of people out of hatred for their beliefs? Or would you stand up against that man and people who support him?
