Leadership series. Curtis Coleman Center for Religious Studies and Ethics will conduct a leadership certificate series 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. today at the Center for Lifelong Learning, 121 S. The five-class series, entitled “Discovering the Bold and Courageous Leader in You,” is based on Edward Friedman’s book, “Failure of Nerve,” about how to manage emotion as a leader during difficult times. Bondage Breakers Ministries will host Kingdom Shakers — praise dancers and anointed word speakers; women’s conference with three powerful dynamic women speakers at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Athens-Limestone County Public Library. Hindu folk dance. Gujarati Samaj of Tennessee Valley presents kids garba 2018, a Hindu folk dance from Gujarat, India, as part of the Navaratri celebration from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at HCCNA Community Hall, 14800 Vishnu Way, Harvest.

Sharing compassion ministry. Missionary Bill Barker, director of Appalachian Mountain Ministry for the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, will speak Sunday, Oct. 14, at Sardis Springs Baptist Church sanctuary, 18310 Alabama 251, Athens. Barker will speak at 5 p.m. to WMU and give evening worship message at 6 p.m. Sardis Springs WMU group is working toward packing backpacks for the Mississippi River Valley. If you are interested in learning more about the backpacks, attend on Oct. 14. Everyone welcome.

Swamp John’s fundraiser. Tanner United Methodist Church will hold a Swamp John’s fundraiser dinner 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at 19607 Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road. Plate includes fish, chicken, shrimp or combo, plus fries, hushpuppies, slaw and drink for $11.

Men’s day. Lakeview United Methodist Church invites everyone to its men’s day program at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the church in Tanner.

Parenting expert to speak. Parenting expert and best-selling author John Rosemond will speak on “Parenting With Love and Leadership” from 2-5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1917 U.S. 72 West, Athens. Friends and family day. Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church will hold friends and family day Sunday, Oct. 28, at the church at 27971 Easter Ferry Road, Lester. Everyone welcome.

Anniversary. Peace Missionary Baptist Church will honor Pastor Jimmy Bailey’s anniversary with the church starting 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, with Pastor Eddie Green. Elder Kenneth Owens and the St. Mark Primitive Baptist Church family will lead a 2 p.m. service.

Trunk or treat event. First Christian Church will host a free trunk or treat night 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, behind U.G. White’s in Athens. Free hot dogs, chips, drinks and candy.

Prayer Around The Square. Oakdale Baptist Church invites the public to Prayer Around The Square from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, on the east side of the Limestone County Courthouse in downtown Athens.
