Women celebrate historic milestones

Trivia time: When Mildred Raby, right, was born, Woodrow Wilson was president of the United States and the 16th amendment (income tax) and 17th amendment (popular election of U.S. Senators) of the U.S. Constitution were adopted. It was also the year Henry Ford developed his assembly line. If you haven’t guessed by now, Mrs. Raby was born in 1913.

Now for Sue Clark, below. Wilson was also the president the year she was born. World War I began after Austrian Archduke Francis Ferdinand and wife Sophie were assassinated in Sarajevo by Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip. At the movies, Charlie Chaplain was all the rage as “The Little Tramp.” In case you’re stumped, Mrs. Clark was born in 1914.

Mayor Ronnie Marks honored both Raby and Clark Thursday on their respective 104th and 103rd birthdays. Mrs. Clark also asked Marks if he would remember to honor her next year when she reached 104.
