Lou Jean Boggess

Lou Jean Boggess, 83, of St. Augustine, Fla., died Aug. 9, 2006, at Flagler Hospital.

She was born in Athens and had resided in St. Augustine since 1951. She taught for several years in Alabama and for 29 years in St. Augustine. After retiring in 1980 she volunteered at Hartley Elementary School. She was a member of Anastasia Baptist Church, past member of Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority and was a lifetime member of St. Johns Retired Teachers Association.

Memorial services were held in St Augustine, Fla., with the Reverend Ron Moore officiating. Those wishing may make a contribution to your favorite charity.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Boggess and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Johnston.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Merle Boggess and David Lippold. Several cousins also survive.

Craig Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.



Dewey Anthony Davis

The funeral for Dewey Anthony Davis, 60, of Pulaski, Tenn., will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Terrell Pitts officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Davis died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

He was born Oct. 30, 1945, to Doc. G. Davis and Evelyn McGuire Davis in Athens. He retired from Delphi with 30 years of service. He was also a Vietnam veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jennifer Davis; one sister, Linda Davis and two brothers, Carson Davis and Gene Davis.

He is survived by his wife Pamela Davis of Athens; two sons, Dennis Edward Davis and wife Melissa of Pulaski, Tenn., and Michael Anthony Davis and wife Chasity of Pulaski, Tenn.; one sister, Pauline Kyle of Pulaski, Tenn.; one brother, Tommy Davis of Lester; two step-sons, Dennis Magness of Lynnville, Tenn., and Michael Magness of Pulaski, Tenn.; special friends, Tommy Perry, Teresa Perry and Mark Perry and five grandchildren, Joshua Davis, Kelsey Davis, Candice Davis, Matthew Magness and Wesley Magness.

Pallbearers will be Michael Anthony Davis, Dennis Davis, Joey Kyle, Mark Perry, Rick Emerson, Tommy Perry, Ronnie Davis and Dennis Magness.

Honorary pallbearer will be Randy Davis.



Elizabeth Lee Davis

Elizabeth Lee Davis, also known as “Miss Davis,” “Ba,” and “Bee,” was born and lived her entire life in Prospect, Tenn. She was born Oct. 21, 1927.

Ms. Davis died July 18, 2006.

She was a beloved aunt, daughter, and sister; a very popular teacher, a highly competitive basketball coach, and the ultimate Lady Vols fan.

She graduated from Prospect High School and went on to attend and play basketball for Martin College. She graduated from Martin in 1937, received her Bachelor of Art’s degree from Athens College in 1939, and received her Master’s degree from Peabody University in 1957.

During her professional career she dedicated herself to teaching and coaching students in Prospect, Tenn., Beech Hill, Tenn., and Elkton, Tenn. During World War II she spent several years in educational administration, but returned to the classroom when “the men came back from the war.” She spent the last 25 years of her career in the Athens City Schools teaching 7th grade social studies. Her greatest joys were students who returned to see her after they graduated and especially those who came to see her after she retired.

Survivors include two brothers, Tommy Davis and wife Elinor and Bill Davis; two great-nieces, Debbie Davis Pardon and Diane Davis Frost and husband Ken; and five great-children, Bess Frost, Will Pardon, Rachel Frost and Davis Pardon.

Graveside services were held on July 20, at Prospect Cemetery with Brother Thomas Smith officiating. Arrangements were handled by Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home in Tennessee.

In order to honor her memory and commitment to education, the family is establishing a memorial scholarship to Athens State University. Memorials may be made to the “Miss Davis Scholarship Fund,” People’s State Bank of Commerce, P.O. Box 1239, Ardmore, Tenn. 38449.



Mildred Leona Martin

The funeral for Mildred Leona Martin, 84, of Athens, will be at 2 p.m. today at Spry Funeral Home with Dan Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery.

Mrs. Martin died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at her home.

She was born April 17, 1922, in Limestone County. She was a charter member of the East Highland Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne Martin of Athens and Mickey Martin of Capshaw; five grandchildren, Michael Martin of Capshaw, Scott Martin of Capshaw, Tommy Martin of Athens, Angie Underwood of Ardmore and Kelly Pratt of Huntsville; and seven great-grandchildren, Logan Underwood and Seth Underwood, both of Ardmore, Leah Martin, Luke Martin, Lilah Martin, Lane Martin and Matthew Martin, all of Capshaw.

Tommy Martin will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
