UPDATE: Limestone man gets 2 years in brother’s fatal shooting
An 18-year-old Limestone County man was sentenced to two years in the Limestone County Jail for fatally shooting his older brother in 2018.
Kobe Keshon Peoples shot 21-year-old Mikus Peoples about eight times with a pistol Feb. 26 following a fist fight between the two in a bedroom, officials said. Kobe, then 17, was initially charged with attempted murder. When his brother died, the charge was upgraded to murder.
Under a plea agreement offered by the Limestone County District Attorney’s Office, Peoples agreed to plead guilty Monday to provocation manslaughter and in exchange received a 15-year sentence split so he would serve two years in the county jail. Thirteen years of jail time was suspended as long as he completes three years of supervised probation after his release from jail.
Jones said he decided on the plea offer after meeting with Peoples’ mother and two of her sons. He said she was the mother to the victim, the offender and the eyewitness to the fatal shooting.
“We’re pleased with this sentence, and we hope the family can put it behind them and go together as a family again,” Jones said.
