Limestone coroner: 2 killed in unrelated traffic crashes
Two separate death investigations are underway this morning after a vehicle was struck by a train in Limestone County, while another person was hit and killed by a vehicle in Athens.
Both deaths were confirmed by Limestone County Coroner Mike West. He said both occurred around 7 a.m.
The pedestrian was struck on Elm Street near the intersection of Lucas Ferry Road. Athens police have closed that section of the road until 8 a.m.
The fatal crash occurred at Laughmiller Road at the railroad track, West said. He confirmed a train struck a vehicle at the crossing. It is unknown at this time if the driver or a passenger was killed.
