UPDATE: Man and woman killed in Sunday crash on Alabama 53

A two-vehicle crash Sunday at intersection of Alabama 53 and Pinedale Road killed two people and injured three others.

Maria Luisa Cruz, 38, of Huntsville and Luis Gomez, 35, of Smyrna, Tenn., were both killed when the 2009 Nissan Versa Cruz was driving struck a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by Jessie Clark, 65, of Taft, Tennessee, according to Alabama State Troopers. Cruz and Gomez were pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Clark, along with two passengers in Cruz’s vehicle, were transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries, troopers said.

The crash occurred at 6:34 p.m. on Alabama 53 one mile south of Ardmore.
