Mother, son dead in shooting; second son hospitalized

BASCOM, Fla. (AP) — A woman and her child are dead after a fatal shooting in Florida.

The Dothan Eagle reports that law enforcement responding Friday evening to a home in Bascom found an adult woman and her two sons under the age of 10 with gunshot wounds. Jackson County Sheriff Lou Roberts says the mother and one son died, while the other son was airlifted to a hospital in Tallahassee in critical condition.

Roberts says his office was treating the house as a crime scene, but was not looking for suspects. He says the crime scene investigators from Pensacola and a medical examiner from Panama City would help determine the manner and cause of the shooting.

Names have not been released.

Bascom is located near the Alabama-Florida state line.
