Weekend wreck victims ID’d
Alabama State Troopers have identified the victims of separate fatal wrecks Sunday.
Robert Nicholas Phillips, 28, of Rogersville, was killed when the 2003 Honda Odyssey he was driving left the road on U.S. 72 and overturned, according to Alabama State Trooper Chuck Daniel. Daniel said Phillips was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The single-vehicle crash occurred around 7 a.m. Limestone County Coroner Mike West told The News Courier the vehicle was eastbound on U.S. 72 when the driver lost control, hit a culvert and flipped.
“It even broke the culvert, which I’ve never seen before,” West said.
The victim was heading to a clinic in Huntsville for treatment when the wreck occurred, West said.
Ardmore
A two-vehicle crash killed Manisha Thaker, 33, of Tacoma, Washington, around 10:25 a.m. Sunday, Daniel said.
She was a passenger in a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox that collided with a 2000 Volvo commercial farm truck at the intersection of Alabama 251 and Sweet Springs Road, two miles south of Ardmore, the trooper said.
Officials said Sunday they believed the driver, identified as 36-year-old Pinakin Dilipkumar Thaker, was Manisha’s husband. The other passengers were believed to be their children.
“The driver of the Equinox and two child passengers were transported to Huntsville Hospital with unknown injuries,” Daniel said. “The driver of the Volvo was not injured, but a passenger in the Volvo was transported to Huntsville Hospital with unknown injuries.”
West said Monday the family was in the process of moving to Limestone County from Tacoma, Washington. He had told The News Courier Sunday he believed the Equinox may have crossed into the path of the Volvo, though he could not say for sure.
Manisha was wearing her seat belt during the accident, and air bags were deployed, West said.
State troopers are still investigating both accidents.
